Different Thrillers are set on targeting different types of audiences, specific to the ones that they like the best themselves.
There are Psychological Thrillers which are usually set to an audience of 18+ as they include a lot of violence and issues that could be quite disturbing for the younger generation. Usually on the DVD case or in the movie description it will have a warning on whether it is suitable for who you are. The plot of Psychological Thrillers usually have something to do with characters fighting each other with their minds and trying to defeat each other. An example of a Psychological Thriller is Fatal Attraction.
Crime Thrillers are thrillers that have a clear focus that the characters etc, are trying to break the law in some kind of way. The police feature in this type of thriller quite a lot as they are trying to solve something or are involved in some kind of way. Villains are usually the criminals and have done something bad that they need to be stopped for. An example of this is Silence of the Lambs.
Romantic Thrillers are usually relationships with a small aspect of a thriller involved in them. They are rarely seen and very hard to make as the plot is very difficult to produce and takes a lot of time to think of a good one. These are usually female dominated and have something to do with their relationship problems and a twist on it. An example of this is the movie called Old Boy.
A Supernatural Thriller is one which involves some kind of supernatural, unusual movement along with a thriller genre flowing throughout. Usually the main character will have some kind of special psychic ability that they use to their advantage and develops many twists in the movie. The main audience gender is females with this type of thriller. An example of a supernatural thriller is The Exorcist.
Action Thrillers involve many scenes of violence, to do with gun combats and many car chases, a lot of movement and high levels of energy taking place. More blood scenes are shown to emphasise the dramatic effect of the violence taking place in the movie. An example of this is The Bourne Identity.
Our thriller movie is looking to be in the bracket of Crime and Action as we have the ideas of both, involved in our intentions of the movie plan. We think these will work best in what we are looking for in a film and think it will be the best type to create. As ours will be very energetic and involve aspects of crime, a mix of the two is probably the easiest to describe what we are going for.
