True Detective Season 2 Opening Credits Analysis - Kye
Sound - The song is by Leonard Cohen. His voice is very low and he speaks more than he sings in this song. It sets the mood well because it gives off a dark atmosphere. The song is also about the devil, which gives you an idea that the show is about morals. At the end the instrumentals cut out, to give a feeling that he is speaking to you.
Cinematography - Like the first season opening credits, the credits mostly compose of closeups on faces and mid shots of the locations. Most of the location shots are aerial shots.
Editing - The sequence has a red colour theme, which reflects the LA setting. Like season 1, towards the end, the colour becomes black. The character's faces aren't shown in full, which teases the audience.
Mise-en-scene - The lighting is very dim. The character shots are very desaturated to give a grim feel. Not much of the props are shown except for a cigarette and a gun, which are common icons of crime thrillers.
